I was a junior in High School. My guidance counselor Mrs. Beck called me into her office with an offer to go to a camp. For so many reasons, that week spent with Ms. Rochelle St. Marie, Ms. Laura Smith, Ms. Rebecca Boone was huge for me. I grew up in microscopic towns dotting [...]

It is dark. It is provocative. Under the gothic vision laid out by Burton…I found it to be hopeful. I went to see Disney’s Alice in Wonderland as directed by Tim Burton . ( http://adisney.go.com/disneypictures/aliceinwonderland/ )

I am part of an online community; gathering of diverse and motley assorted folks who support actresses Crystal Chappell and Jessica Leccia among others. I was intrigued by the writing done for the characters and the performers. It was so well done that it swept me off my feet. I’m more of a scifi [...]

I don’t often repost someone else’s articles, but this article intrigued me. So I’m sharing it for all moms who surf, blog, tweet, Facebook it, myspace it, or in general use the web to stay connected or get connected. The web community is amazing because of it’s access to so many globally. If you’ve [...]

I found this link and loved the article on Anne Rice. I must admit I haven’t read many of her vampire novels. I’m just not a horror buff, but I know many who have. And I do respect her work as an author. I think the article speaks for itself. I applaud Speakeasy Magazine of [...]

Lauren Myracle wrote a book about 5th graders. She included some characters that some would consider to be controversal. Scholastics publishers (whom I have greatly respected in the past) intially planned to pull the book because of these characters and some slang.

This impressed me so much. Kris Delmhorst’s ‘Yellow Brick Road’ (album Five Stories [2001]).
I’m off to see the wizard in his castle on the hill
And I never once have known him and I do not know him still
Because his face it is magnificent but you’ll never see his hands
And the way he throws his [...]

A number of years ago, I was part of group who went through World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine. A number of teens and a handful of adults grouped together to fast for 30 Hours to raise awareness and money for fighting hunger around the world. It is still one of my fondest memories. Abbey [...]

I bring her nothing but broken pieces
The scattered shards, I lay at her feet.
She never winces or shudders at them.
She takes my hand; we sort through the heap.
And I weep sometimes at the lack inside me.
She pulls me close and takes her seat.
“Joy” she says, “that is what you bring me.”
I bring her all that [...]
