I will be the first to say that I am not a huge follower of politics at large. I don’t do tons of discussion about it. I’m just not a quick thinker so I like to mull over info slowly and chew lightly until I really comprehend well what is being said or shared. If you add in money and numbers then I really need to go slow and try to get all the facts together and think before I speak. I’m very cautious about starting discussions with others because as Linus Van Pelt of Peanuts fame would say, “There are three things I have learned never to discuss with people: religion, politics and the Great Pumpkin.”
I will admit however that this election has drawn my attention for many reasons. It is historic. Even my 2nd and 3rd grader have both come home asking me questions and the primary one is “How is this election historic, mama?” And I fielded that one as truthfully, carefully, and tactfully as possible. After all I don’t want to raise a Democrat or a Republican. I want to raise a person of faith who is moral and ethical and who votes their conscience. I have watched the speeches, the interviews, and read the papers along with other Americans as we are holding our breath.
Here’s what I am most currently wondering. If those running for office even before the parties choose their particular candidate would go out and stump for as much for campaign finances, I mean for every cent they can get from everyone they can, then each one donate all the money to the national debt or even on bailing out Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and A.I.G., and instead of hitting the trail and going from town to town to wine and dine and lecture and just appear instead on SNL, Bill Maher, Jay Leno, The View, Hannity and Colmes, and Oprah wouldn’t that really reform government (or at least give it a personality), bolster the economy, and get the word out about what they plan to accomplish just as well? All we American’s really want in office these days is a celebrity any way right?
Ronald Reagan,
Schwarzenegger,
Jessie “the Body”Ventura,
and Clint Eastwood
…… Hmm. Wow looking at that list just now, 2 rough and rowdy cowboys, the Terminator, and a Navy vet turned retired professional wrestler. Hmm. How TOUGH is American politics? Just curious.
