How does a geek pack for a mission trip?

How does a geek do mission trip packing? Well, let’s be honest. I live on my laptop with journaling and blogging and studying and emailing those I love. Abbey is counting on the webcam and yahoo messenger or Skype. What could be better on a week long trip than to video call home if you’re able right. It’s just so Jetson So the first techy must for a trip to the mountains to do VBS and teen ministry to apartment complexes is “Moneypenny” (My Mathew named the laptop). She will carry the photos and update all those who would like to know what’s up as I make a day by day update if I can. If not I look at it as insurance for my writing fettish. Next is the inevitable April Cam. I am as addicted to photos and video clips as the computer and while “Miss Moneypenny” could gather snapshots a lighter tool is just easier to sport all day. I haven’t figured out yet how it’s going to work in the pool since that’s part of my duties (I know I’m so scared of that for people! April+pool= not cool to me. It’s like taking Texas’ legendary Sea World to Colorado! Orca city!) But the camera is the ultimate note gathering method for me. Windows into the adventure to relive later. My mother-in-law insisted on the crucial cell phone. Diallo and I had been avoiding that one gadget and not participating in that bit of geekdom for a long time. But we caved since this is my first extended trip from home alone in TEN years. I guess it doesn’t matter that “Moneypenny” can reach out and touch someone too with photos or video feed. There’s always that slight chance that there might not be internet access, right? AND the pièce de résistance for me for van and community travel is the mp3 player. What was it like before we could plug into those and just refuse to participate in the world around us? (Come now, I am more mature than that, right?) Hey, how “‘uber geeky” could I claim to be if I didn’t have one and take it along? Now that I have all this packed in my bags, where do I put the clothes and toiletries? Hm….
