One of my son’s favorite reasons to watch “Horton Hears a Who”

She discards her bridal white
And flush of baby pinks
She robes her self in a deep matronly green
Her young are slowly growing up
And change is in the air
She is more hotly serious for all the time she’s seen
Her blue skies are deeper turquoise
With cotton clouds piled up high
When she feels their fullness
Her grey shadows [...]

Today is Memorial Day. We remember those who have sacrificed and lost so much so that we can live with the freedoms we are given. It’s a very poignant and special remembering. Freedom is costly.
My children were talking with me earlier about “Memorial” and what that word means. I explained that it is [...]

She keeps saying how she’s sorry
Time and time again
She apologizes for infringing on my time
I keep saying that’s she’s not
Pulling me down with her pain
I descend to reach a friend of mine
It’s crazy but I keep saying
“I know, this is not who you are”
Or at least it isn’t who you want to be
I [...]

Koi Pond
Orange, black, and white swirls
Beneath a smooth as glass surface
Mouths gapping; open, close, open,
Repeatedly
A fin, a tail, clearly visible
Breaking surface tension
Ripples of color marring the smooth peace

The Deer
My eyes were closed in contemplation
Music was blaring through the radio
I was writing stories, building my castles in the sky
My something out of nothing
In my frustration I heard the musician sing,
“We are the evidence of God”
It was a back drop for my thoughts and prayers
I was taking in “blue skies, …starry nights, …warm rain [...]

Texas Prim Rose
Fragile, natural tissue paper
Pale and pink as a baby’s skin
White and bright as a bridal gown
Leaning forward breathing deeply
Sunshine yellow afterglow
Of Mother Natures kisses
Are left behind on unsuspecting noses
Fields are covered with springtime blossoms
Texas calls them the prim rose.

Look at me
Don’t you close your eyes.
Keep your whole heart on me.
Don’t walk away; don’t disconnect.
Look at me.
Look at more than what you see.
This was your idea last time I checked.
Please don’t shut me out.
Don’t turn your back on me.
Say the words that are hard; say what you think.
I want no “yes man”.
Don’t you say [...]

My best-friend, you crossed my mind today
Not that, that is anything new.
Something in the sky about to take wing
Reminded me to say a prayer for you.
Sometimes its just a rustle
Like the sound of wings
Sometimes it’s the sunlight
Slanting down through shades of green.
Oh my friend, you are never far from me
The Spirit fills the distant miles.
I [...]

Most of the time when I am asked
I am able to reply,
“I am kind of blue todayThe blue of the open Texas skies
Other days when I am asked,
I reply bold and free,
“Yeah I am kind of blue today,
Like the wild wonderful Caribbean sea!”
Sometimes when I am asked,
And it’s just the weight of thought on my [...]
