April Poems
It is the nature of love to create
The stars in their courses
Leaves in autumn
Or a snowflake’s shape
Uniqueness of Fingerprints
A baby’s warm breath
It is the nature of Love to create
Stained glass windows
Stories or songs
A child with a hand full of clay
An artist and brush
A seamstress and thread
It is the nature of Love to create
Reminders of beauty
Tell us a story
The world longingly waits
For all will be new
The redeemer comes and we know
It is the nature of Love to create – April Stogner (thoughts provoked by a line from Madeleine L’Engle, Walking on Water, ’80)
All I Know
This is all I know
And moonshine and star light
The first cry and baby’s breath
All that I know is a gift from You
From winter’s first snowfall
To the first warm spring rain
Daffodils peeking through grass green
From your hand is joy and pain
What will I glean
From the chronos I move in
Will it teach me kairos you dwell in
So I will know how to bend
Does ice cream and rosebuds
Do a friend’s touch and child’s laughter
Teach me to live in this moment
In a way that will prepare me for after
After all that I know
When my life’s art is a finished race
Will you come and take me and make me
A trophy of your grace
This is all I know
Of rainbow or fireside or glorious
All I know is useless
If it can not prepare my heart for You – April Stogner
Face to Face-
I’m tired of cloudy vision
I’m tired of working through
The veil of words
The hearts of men
Leaning in to catch brief whispers
Almost
Nearly
Even the moments when
You are as close as the air in my lungs
It’s not enough
Just almost right
A taste
A glimpse
I want to know you better
I want to be held in your embrace
I want to touch
I want to see
Know
Known
But all I have is a glass darkly
We have words sometimes like mysteries
We piece together
We connect clues
Momentary light
Almost right
Oh Lord, I love you
I just want this barrier
Sin and the fleshly wall
Resolved finally
Total Intimacy
Teach me.
